Another flyer implying that I, Agustin Hernandez, Jr. owe “over $580,000 to taxing entities; some taxes owed go back as far as 1991,” was sent out last Friday.
Let me make this very clear, in 1991, I was IN NO WAY involved in family businesses, and was IN NO WAY directly involved in those businesses not paying property taxes. Think about it. In 1991, I was ELEVEN YEARS OLD.
The person(s) responsible for mailing this negative political advertisement were tying me into this allegation by using “guilt by association.” However, those are my family members’ businesses, and they are not the ones that signed up to run for this office.
More importantly, the Chief Appraiser for Hidalgo County has stated no back taxes are owed on any properties owned wholly or in part by me. Here is a letter from the Chief Appraiser stating that Mr. Hernandez does not currently own any taxable property:
